On Sunday, 7/19/2026, the car community converged in Chinatown, Los Angeles for Carrera Arroyo, a rapidly growing car cruise up the historic 110 Freeway, presented by G’s on Sunday and Makina Drivers Club. The excitement was palpable as all types of vehicles, from Porches to Minis to classics, pulled up to a large parking lot on Hill Street, overlooked by the beautiful Thien Hau Temple. Attendees greeted each other warmly, talking about their rides, the cruise, and inevitably their lives beyond cars—a thriving community created by car culture.
This year, the event launched a popular photographer’s vest, which quickly sold out. Indeed, many photographers are drawn to the event, from the enthusiast to the professional. Like the amazing vehicles on display, there were many equivalent cameras. For every Porsche, there was a Leica. For every Mini, there was a compact camera. Our favorite one was a vintage Graflex Speed Graphic press camera—like a big, elegant, and slow-rolling classic car.
Instead of the cars, we decided to shoot the shooters, focusing on the people who document, share, and celebrate this incredible gathering of the car community. We also opted to use film, forgoing the speed of digital and relishing the intention of film. Time slowed down for a brief moment on this special day, thanks to G’s on Sunday, Makina Drivers Club, and all the attendees.
Makina and The Oinkster will be showcasing local artists at their upcoming Sunday Service, “A Morning for the Arts,” on Sunday, 9/27/2026, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. You’ll be sure to see a few shooters there.
